Advantages Of Saddle Hunting

  • Extremely Lightweight Tree Saddles: Tree Saddles are lightweight, making you more mobile. Perfect for the Public Land Owner!
  • Little to no noise: With tree saddle, you don’t get the noise typically associated with pulling up tree stands.
  • Hunters Safety: While there have been lots of hunters who have fallen from conventional tree stands, when saddle hunting you are tethered to the tree from the moment you leave the ground until you step back on it after the hunt, making it almost impossible to fall.
How do I know what climbing stick to purchase?
This will depend on your style of hunting. A lot of public land hunters want ultralight gear and prefer our one stick platform combos. Others who have more stationary sets like on a deer lease tend to lean more towards the SHIKARS and SHIKAR FXD.
How do I know what length stick I need?
This is going to be personal preference, paired with some physical aspects. In theory, the longer the stick the higher you can get in the tree, and with fewer of them. Hunters with longer legs will probably want a larger gap between the steps as well. We offer a handful of sticks in a variety of lengths. Have questions? Contact us.
What are climbing stick aiders for?
Climbing stick aiders are used to help you get higher in the tree using single climbing stick, or multiples if needed. Hunters not utilizing the one-sticking climbing method still use aiders, typically on the bottom stick and bottom step only.
Can I put more than one aider on a climbing stick?
No. A single climbing stick aider is designed to be used with a single climbing stick. You could use multiple climbing stick + aider combos to get up the same tree, but we do not suggest trying to connect to aiders to each other.
What is the difference between the Slick Rick and the BIG B.O.B?
Both offered with 8" Platforms. The difference between the Slick Rick and the BIG B.O.B. one-sticks is the packability. Much like the FXD SHIKAR sticks, The BIG B.O.B. comes fixed, ready to deploy where the Slick Rick will fold flat to fit better on your day pack. The Slick Rick's platform also offers a top platform adjustment of 20 degrees so you can obtain the perfect angle for all day hunts.
Do you offer heavy duty climbing sticks?
Yes. Designed to hold heavy weights, our Big Boy sticks are 18" step to step and have weight aiding cut outs and heavy-duty stand-offs milled for stacking.
Do OOAL climbing sticks fold or collapse?
Currently our original SHIKAR climbing sticks are the only model we offer that folds or collapses down. SHIKAR FXD and Big Boy sticks will stack on top of each other making them easy to pack as well.
Are your climbing sticks stackable?
Yes. Out On A Limb MFG, LLC climbing sticks are designed to be stacked so you can transport your gear to and from the stand with ease. List of stackable climbing sticks; SHIKAR, SHIKAR FXD, Big Boy Sticks.
What is a one-stick?
One-stick climbing sticks like the B.O.B., SH1KAR and SHIKAR Mini are designed to be used by themselves. This one-stick climbing method is preferred by run and gun saddle hunters who hunt deep into public lands.
Which climbing stick is best for me?
Depending on how fast you want to deploy them and how you'd like them to carry will help decide which climbing stick you need. The SHIKAR FXD sticks deploy faster as they are already set, they also stack on top of each other for easy transport but will not be flat. The Standard SHIKAR's will pack smaller since they fold flat, but you have to set the steps and standoffs before use.
Dou you offer a one-stick that folds flat?
Yes. The Slick Rick One Stick will fold flat, making it our most packable one-stick.
